Philanthropy Matters
Thanks to the generosity and kindness of donors, Parents as Teachers is on solid ground and positioned to continue the vital work of preparing children for future success, strengthening families, and building strong communities. Parents as Teachers is eternally grateful for the enormous support it received.
The Parents as Teachers National Center has been awarded a transformative $1.04 million grant from the Bezos Family Foundation to support two innovative initiatives aimed at strengthening families and promoting positive child development outcomes.
The grant includes the disbursement of $790,000 over three years to pilot the integration of doula support services into the Parents as Teachers evidence-based home visiting model – a program successful in our home state of Missouri through the National Center – Show Me Strong Families affiliate.
The Elevance Health Foundation granted Parents as Teachers National Center $716,454 to be distributed over the next three years. The goal is to increase support and resources for families affected by Substance Use Disorder (SUD). This funding will enable Parents as Teachers to enhance its evidence-based home visiting model to better identify, refer, and serve families impacted by substance use.
The project will a) explore the range of support practices and approaches already used effectively by Parents as Teachers programs, b) use these insights together with a learning community to inform the development and refinement of additional resources, and c) pilot these resources with a small group of programs to enhance and ultimately expand their usage to the wider Parents as Teachers network of programs. Through the grant, Parents as Teachers will research and deploy a SUD screening tool, create a community resource referral toolkit, develop training for its parent educators, and develop new SUD-specific content.
