Advancing Community Responsiveness

The Family and Community Engagement Council of Parents as Teachers is actively bolstering organizational effectiveness by prioritizing fidelity to the families and communities we serve, meeting them where they are and building on their strengths.

This council plays a crucial role in implementing the Parents as Teachers Strategic Framework and overall business strategy to ensure that practices, structures, and culture are in line with the organization’s mission, vision, goals, and principles.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Parents as Teachers National Center (PATNC) has partnered with the University of North Carolina to revolutionize parent education. Since February 2024, PATNC’s Learning Community has been meeting monthly with a clear mission: to research and implement effective strategies for parent educators to support healthy and positive identity formation in children.

The group is committed to leading the way in making a lasting impact during this critical period of child development. At their kick-off event, they delved into essential themes, including the development of practical resources and tools for engaging with families, and emphasized the vital role of self-reflection and personal growth in their work.

Discussions have revolved around harnessing existing Parents as Teachers programs to promote Development-Centered Parenting and Family Well-Being. The Learning Community is actively seeking ways to alleviate the extra burden placed on parent educators working with underserved under-resourced communities.

Additionally, the group is exploring the necessity for broad representation in the workforce to better serve these communities and to create a more and supportive environment for all children and families, driving positive change and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those served by Parents as Teachers.
