Podcast Episode 3
How Home Visiting Can Support Families With Autism
Will is an artist, gamer, athlete, speaker, and aspiring voice actor who is autistic. He is joined by his “annoyingly outspoken” mother, Christy, who suffered from the autism diagnosis their family received when Will was 6 years old. Christy enjoys speaking to educators and parents about her messy journey from grief to awareness to acceptance. She became a PAT parent educator in 2006, right around the time of the diagnosis, and has had the opportunity to work with and learn from families of all abilities. Will doesn’t remember life when he was young, how hard it was to meet developmental milestones, and the many therapies his poor mother took him to, only to realize that she was the one who needed treatment. Will is living his best life by working hard at his job, online gaming with friends around the world, and saving up to live independently- like many young adults his age.
