Parents as Teachers National Center Announces Parents as Teachers Day 2025

November 8 Marks a Global Celebration of Families, Home Visitors, and Early Childhood Champions

On November 8, 2025, families and early childhood champions nationwide will celebrate Parents as Teachers Day, a recognition led by Parents as Teachers National Center. The day honors the powerful partnership among parents, caregivers, home visitors, and advocates who help ensure every child has the strongest possible start in life.

Parents as Teachers Day was established to recognize and celebrate the people who provide hands-on support, child development guidance, and critical connections to community resources.

“At its core, Parents as Teachers Day is about honoring the trusted relationships that amplify and leverage the strengths of families,” said Constance Gully, President and CEO of Parents as Teachers. “This is a day to uplift the voices of parents and the dedication of home visitors who walk side by side with families during their child’s earliest years. It is both a celebration and a movement,” added Gully. “It is a moment to pause, reflect, and recommit to ensuring that every family feels seen, supported, and strengthened from the very beginning.”

The day also honors the legacy of the late Mildred M. Winter, who was born on this day in 1920. She was the visionary St. Louis educator who founded Parents as Teachers in the early 1980s. Winter believed that parents are a child’s first and most influential teachers, and she built a program that has grown into the internationally recognized, evidence-based early childhood home visiting model, now serving more than 188,000 families across the U.S. and around the world.

“As we envision the future for Parents as Teachers, we are reminded that as parents shape their children, so will their children shape the world,” Winter once said.

In honor of Parents as Teachers Day, affiliates worldwide will host Global Group Connections. These are family celebrations, learning experiences, and community gatherings that help families across the network build social capital. Digital campaign resources are also available, including customizable social media graphics, proclamation request letters, thank-you cards, and event materials to help local communities amplify the celebration.

Individuals who would like to donate to Parents as Teachers can do so here.
