CAP Tulsa’s Learning@Home program received a $10,000 award to launch a Father Engagement Initiative, aimed at fostering positive parenting behaviors and father-child interactions. The initiative focused on increasing fathers’ involvement through home visits, group connections, and special events.
Key activities included:
- Focus Groups & Surveys: Conducted in multiple languages to understand fathers’ needs and interests.
- Tailored Group Connections: Monthly events, including field trips and family experiences, to encourage participation.
- Incentives & Giveaways: Fathers received themed gifts, STEM activities, and fatherhood-related books.
- Culturally Inclusive Marketing: Flyers and invitations in multiple languages with diverse father representations.
- Meals at Events: Providing full meals significantly boosted attendance.
- Branded Materials: T-shirts, incentive bags, and promotional items were distributed to engage participants.
“Through the Father Engagement Initiative, strategies have been successfully implemented that not only increased father participation but also positively impact children’s cognitive, emotional, and social development,” said Program Manager Ariane Berancourt Lopez. “The significant increase in fathers’ attendance at group connections and home visits is a testament to the effectiveness of this approach. With strong attendance and positive feedback, CAP Tulsa successfully enhanced father involvement in early childhood development.”
