Joining the board are Georgia Mjartan, executive director of the South Carolina First Steps & South Carolina Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC); Jovanna Archuleta, director of Early Childhood Community Outreach at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation in New Mexico; Jamie Singleton, M.D., chief of pediatrics at Beaufort-Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services in South Carolina; and Sean Doherty, Ed.D., vice president of education at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis, MO. Parents as Teachers Board Chair Dr. Mark Ginsberg, provost, and executive vice president of George Mason University, and president of Townson University, said the board members bring to their service personal and professional interests in ensuring the healthy development of young children and families at local, state, and national levels.

“The entire organization benefits from the energy, ideas, and guidance provided through the expertise of the new and departing board members,” Ginsberg said. “These individuals bring a wealth of expertise in areas vital to our work, including early education policy, culturally and linguistically responsive methodology and pedagogy, literacy and early language development, pediatric medicine.”

Dr. Ginsberg said the board sets ongoing strategic planning and policy, which is monitored and evaluated to ensure growth, expansion, and responsiveness to key trends in the ever-changing economy and emerging demographic shifts of families and their young children.
