Celebrating Champions at Home and Around the World
Parents as Teachers Day celebrates the heart behind everything we do: the people and the partnerships that together build strong communities, thriving families, and children who are healthy, safe, and learning.
This year, programs around the world marked the occasion with proclamations, memories, spotlights, and testimonies from families like this one in South Carolina and this one in Missouri. For the first time, affiliates planned their November group connections – a monthly staple of the Parents as Teachers model – around the Parents as Teachers Day celebration, as well. Under the headline “World of Support,” this month’s events illustrated the global family of home visiting working together toward the same important goals.
In the Parents as Teachers National Center headquarters city of St. Louis, Missouri, the day of celebration held special significance. The Show Me Strong Families affiliate recognized one of the leading voices for home visiting in Missouri, the late Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond, whose efforts have been influential for the entire international field even today. The affiliate dedicated a new trauma-informed community space in the heart of the city to Senator Bond on November 7, marking a leap forward for the Blue Ribbon program, which serves as a learning lab for the Parents as Teachers network of affiliates.
