National Webinar Series on the new Child Welfare Resources
Parents as Teachers is committed to supporting affiliates by helping them understand and implement the new child welfare resources. One of the most significant changes is the concept of parent-only visits, which may feel unfamiliar to many. This shift in both mindset and practice will require a thoughtful approach, and patience is essential as we adjust.
Parents as Teachers National Center will be hosting a 4-part national webinar series to support affiliates in understanding how to use the new child welfare resources. It begins in January and running through April. Here are the topics of each webinar:
January 22 – Developing relationships with child welfare partners.
February 26 -Conducting a developmental screen when there has been custody disruption.
March 26 – Including Development Centered Parenting in parent only visits.
April 23 – Covering the Parent-Child Interaction in a parent only visit.
Each webinar will feature an affiliate or two that has experience in the particular topic and will share their expertise.
Throughout this webinar series, we will provide consistent reinforcement, support, and opportunities for reflection. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels confident and equipped to adopt these new approaches effectively.

The new resources have been introduced to the field but that is only the first step in the process. It is important that time and effort are invested in familiarizing affiliates with these materials to ensure they are effectively integrated into their practice. The concept of parent only visits may be unfamiliar to many, as it represents a shift in both mindset and practice. Adapting to this change will require patience, and affiliates will need multiple opportunities to revisit and absorb the information to fully implement these strategies. Consistent reinforcement and support will be key in ensuring successful adoptions.
The materials were introduced to the field in a National Webinar held in September. The recording is available on the tailoring services tab of the model implantation workspace.
