Strengthening services to prenatal and postpartum families

Parents as Teachers is committed to helping address the maternal and infant morbidity and mortality health crisis. Home visitors are uniquely positioned to help families navigate the experiences of pregnancy and the postpartum period. Parents as Teachers National Center partnered with Brazelton Touchpoints Center in 2018 to conduct a deep dive into the research and literature on factors associated with maternal and infant morbidity and mortality.

Based on this comprehensive research, in combination with feedback from the field, Parents as Teachers developed expanded and deepened prenatal and postpartum resources. These resources are designed to support parent educators in facilitating conversations around topics that have demonstrated impacts on maternal and infant outcomes. Special thanks to the Ballmer Group and Enterprise Mobility Foundation – ROAD Forward for their support of this work.

PBS helps fuel learning

As a Ready to Learn national partner, Parents as Teachers works with the Public Broadcast Station (PBS) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to design resources that fuel intergenerational learning.

Parents as Teachers affiliates are collaborating with their local PBS stations to engage families in online and offline experiences that ready their children for future interests and careers. PBS stations report that collaborating with Parents as Teachers affiliates has improved their understanding of family needs and expanded the reach of their resources. Affiliates describe increased engagement in group connections and enrollment of new families.

At the 2023 Parents as Teachers International Conference, new local partnerships were inspired by the convenings, workshops, and booths led by PBS, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Parents as Teachers national staff.
