Every year in observance of Black History Month, Parents as Teachers hosts events that highlight the contributions made to American culture by historic and current African-American figures. During this year’s Black History Month celebration, the Show Me Strong Families (SMSF) Parents as Teachers National Center’s local affiliate, is presenting “Public Officials Storytelling Time” every Friday throughout the month of February.

The story times will be held via virtual group connections using the Zoom video conferencing platform. Each reader will share a favorite children’s book. Each reader is being asked to write a message in a book purchased by SMSF from Eye See Me Books that will be randomly given to one of the participants each week.

The participants are families enrolled in SMSF, as well as in-home child care providers in the area. The Public Officials Storytelling Time readers include City of St. Louis Treasurer Tishaura Jones, Missouri State Rep. Kevin Windham, Missouri State Rep. LakeySha Bosley, and Missouri State Sen. Brian Williams. Pamela Blair, owner of Eye See Me Books, will also join the Zoom calls.
