Parents as Teachers Board Directors, State Leaders Visit Capitol Hill
Held alongside the board’s spring meeting in Washington, DC, the annual Hill visits focused on two goals: thank Members of Congress for their long-standing support of the Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) appropriation and make the impact of Parents as Teachers and home visiting impossible to ignore. After receiving a federal briefing and training from Parents as Teachers National Center policy consultant Kuna Tavalin, board and state leaders met directly with lawmakers and staff to educate, advocate, and build lasting relationships.
Like last year, the reception was strikingly bipartisan and overwhelmingly positive. Many offices requested follow-up materials and in-district site visits. For numerous new staff unfamiliar with MIECHV or Parents as Teachers, the meetings became powerful teaching moments.
This is the essential groundwork as we prepare to ramp up for MIECHV in the year ahead. We’re energized to keep building momentum, relationships, and our advocacy muscle.
