Launched for Learning
On July 1, Parents as Teachers officially launched the Born to Learn® Curriculum, a comprehensive curriculum bringing a new look and feel to the same trusted content parent educators have come to expect from Parents as Teachers.
Hosted on the newly developed Parents as Teachers Content Platform, the experience now enables enhanced searching, planning tools to support individualization of visits, and smoother access to language translations, among other enhanced features.
“After spending the last several years gathering feedback from the field around their experiences with our curricula we are excited to be able to unveil this whole new experience with our content,” said Lindsey Shah, Director of Content and Curricula. “The features reflect not just innovations in technology that have occurred since 2011 and our first online curricula, but also reflect the changing needs of the field and how they are interacting with our content.”
Conversations and testing of ideas began well before the development process and has continued through this initial launch. From sessions and conversations at two successive annual international conferences, consistent entries into our feedback form, and focus groups identifying issues within the functioning beta version, those closest to the curriculum’s use have spoken into each part of the process.
“Critical to the success of the development has been the comfort level of our field to share their input and feedback candidly,” said Donna Hunt O’Brien, Vice President of Professional and Program Development. “Hearing what is not going well and what could be improved helped us check our assumptions and build what our home visitors need.”
And user experiences so far have affirmed this approach. Parent educators in the field have commented on the new look and feel, the ease of finding resources in various languages, and how they are finding new resources they didn’t even know were there thanks to new ways of navigating content.
The success of the process of developing this new content and curriculum experience reflects the trust-based relationships that contribute to the ongoing evolution of our content.
The Content Platform will continue to evolve as we get to know the needs of the field within this new structure and as we add additional content to the Platform. The Born to Learn® Curriculum is just the first step for the Content Platform, with the vision it becomes a comprehensive space to engage with all types of Parents as Teachers content.
