About 500 staff and families enrolled in Show Me Strong Families (SMSF), a local program under the umbrella of the Parents as Teachers National Center, shared the day with more than 25,000 fans at Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis for the annual Parents as Teachers Day at the Ballpark game between the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals and the New York Mets.
Lifetime Parents as Teachers Board Member Carolyn Losos threw out the first ceremonial pitch. Day at the Ballpark was created to help the 40-year-old organization build stronger bonds between its staff and the families it serves, while giving back to the community.
Parents as Teachers made it possible for local families enrolled in its SMSF program – that couldn’t afford to purchase tickets to the game – to receive them through a matching donation initiative.
