New grant sends Parents as Teachers HEALTH to Nigeria

Parents as Teachers has a 25-plus year partnership with Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. That partnership has included eight National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded projects. Those projects focused on integrating Healthy Eating and Active Living in the Home (HEALTH) directly impacting diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular health.

In partnership, a new NIH grant was awarded to scale this work outside of the U.S. by taking Parents as Teachers HEALTH to Nigeria where there are some of the highest burdens of maternal morbidity and mortality.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are among the leading causes of maternal death in Nigeria. Parents as Teachers is excited to continue to expand its partnership with Washington University in St. Louis, while adding new partners from the University of Abuja and New York University.
