November 2025 Challenge Grant Awardee Spotlight

This month’s Challenge Grant Awardee spotlight features Howe Community Resource Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, which was awarded $25,000 in the Family Leadership category.

Delaney Hutchison, Parents as Teachers home visiting supervisor, shared, “We’re excited to introduce our Parent Leadership Program, designed to foster leadership and advocacy among parents.”

Modeled after the Greater Green Bay Chamber’s long-standing community leadership initiative, this program provides parents with the tools and confidence to become active leaders — at home, in schools, and throughout their communities.

Through hands-on learning and interactive sessions, parents will develop essential leadership skills such as communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and teamwork. These skills not only strengthen their ability to support their children’s education but also prepare them to take on leadership roles in schools, community organizations, and local initiatives.

A key focus of the program is advocacy. Parents will learn how to navigate systems like education, healthcare, and social services to ensure their children receive the support and resources they need. Participants will gain the confidence to speak up, engage with policymakers and educators, and take an active role in decisions that impact their families and communities.

By strengthening advocacy skills, parents become powerful agents for change — working to improve outcomes not only for their own families but for others, as well.

This program is especially significant for families living in under-resourced areas, offering a pathway to empowerment and community connection. Through leadership opportunities, caregivers build confidence, develop new skills, and find a supportive network that reduces isolation and fosters mutual encouragement.

The program empowers parents by building confidence, developing leadership and communication skills, and fostering community connections. It also helps parents become advocates and positive role models. Success will be measured through participant feedback, engagement data, and long-term community impact tracked through ongoing home visiting programs.

Hutchison also stated, “By investing in parents as leaders and advocates, we are building stronger families, stronger communities, and a brighter future for all children.”

Parents as Teachers National Center applauds you on your commitment to children and families in your community.
