May’s 2024 Challenge Grant mission moment spotlight features the Exchange Club Family Skills Center of Jefferson County in Birmingham, AL. They were awarded funds to increase their community presence through marketing and communications.

Their main objectives included:

  1. Destigmatizing services: Rebranding in line with the national network, updating the website and materials, strengthening community partnerships, and diversifying recruitment and referral networks.
  2. Increasing online and community presence: Updating the website and social media pages, contracting a marketing consultant for ads and press releases, and creating a strategic communications plan for the next two years.
  3. Engaging community partners: Using the above activities to gain additional community-based partners, diversifying recruitment networks, and building trust within the community.

Specific outcomes they aim to achieve:

  • New website; updated social media pages and materials.
  • New communications strategic plan.
  • Increased partnerships with at least five community stakeholders during the grant period.
  • Increased community referrals by 40%, tracked via intake forms.

“The organization seeks to enhance its visibility and voice through marketing and communications to engage with the broader community,” stated Executive Director Kimberly Berry.  “Despite having a full staff, we struggle to recruit fully for our programs due to limited community-based referrals. Improving our online presence and engaging a wider range of stakeholders will help maintain strong recruitment and broader impact.”

Congratulations! Parents as Teachers National Center applauds your commitment to children and families.
